EU driving hours calculator
Estimate how many breaks and rests a trip needs under EU Regulation 561/2006 and when you could finish.
EU driving hours planner
Estimate how a trip fits into EU driving and rest rules.
Rules used in this estimate
- Break: at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving (may be split into 15 + 30 minutes).
- Daily driving: 9 hours, extendable to 10 hours twice per week.
- Daily rest: 11 hours, or reduced 9 hours up to three times between weekly rests.
- Weekly driving: maximum 56 hours; two consecutive weeks: maximum 90 hours.
- Weekly rest: regular weekly rest of at least 45 hours (modelled after six driving days).
Important limitations
This is a planning estimate, not legally compliant scheduling. Real compliance depends on your previous driving history, breaks and rests already taken, other work, split or reduced weekly rests, ferry and train transport, exemptions and national rules, and is recorded by your tachograph. Never rely on trip distance alone.
The main EU rules in short
After 4.5 hours of driving a driver needs a 45-minute break. Daily driving is limited to 9 hours, 10 hours twice a week. Daily rest is 11 hours, or 9 hours when reduced. Weekly driving is capped at 56 hours and 90 hours over two weeks.
Estimate versus compliance
This tool assumes a rested driver, driving only. It cannot know your earlier driving, other work, split rests, ferry exemptions or national rules. Your tachograph and your employer’s scheduling remain the authority.
